HOCKEY!!!
I’ve spent many words and many column inches in this newsletter talking about hockey cards and the hockey hobby.
Now, the very notion of this may turn off most of you, but be honest with yourself for a second…. It’s an intriguing hobby, you have to admit.
The cards, for the most part, are still very reasonably priced.
The wax… same story.
The people in the hobby are extraordinarily pleasant to deal with and kind.
The hockey hobby community is, and believe me when I say this because I have been in this game for a very long time now, helpful, supportive and downright wonderful.
There are also legitimate stars in the game right now, stars that should transcend the sport alone.
Players like Connor McDavid, Alexander Ovechkin, Auston Matthews and Connor Bedard, are superstars (and budding superstars) on the same level as LeBron James, Shohei Ohtani, and Patrick Mahomes, for example.
These players are that impactful in their respected sport of hockey and that dominant at the same time.
All of this said, the hobby that centers around hockey is still a fraction of that seen in the other sports, and the deeper I delve into this hobby (and I’m pretty deep into it at this point, and diving even further in) the less I understand it.
There are teams all over North America.
There are players from literally all over the world.
The game is fast, physical and requires an incredible amount of athletic ability and skill to play at the NHL level.
All of these attributes should make hockey a wildly popular sport, but it just hasn’t caught on in the hobby.
That is changing with the arrival of Bedard this season.
He’s been magnificent out of the gate, with double-digit goals through the opening quarter of the season, and every game he looks more comfortable with the NHL speed and game.
It’s also changing as a result of the hockey hobby’s overall value, not to mention the ease of entry into the hobby.
Hockey is something that you really need to experience to appreciate it.
And I’ll tell you, once you do experience it, you’re going to love it, too.
So, pop into a few hockey breaks on whatever platform you prefer
Check out some hockey card listings on My Card Post (mycardpost.com), or PWCC, Ebay, or just google shops specializing in hockey cards.
Look into your favorite teams, your local teams, or your favorite player.
Watch some YouTube videos on the history of the game, the state of the game, or the hockey hobby in general.
Then, gets some cards into your hands. I’m telling you, once that happens, you’ll be hooked, too.
