That Card…

Recently, I’ve had to make some changes to my business, to its social media accounts, and to the entire structure of the company.

In many ways, this has been a pain in the backside, but on the other hand, it’s forced me to comb through a lot of old posts, conjure up some old memories and I’ve really found that to be kinda fun.

Plus, it’s never a bad thing to look at your business from a different angle, right? Which is something I’ve had to do that as well over the last few weeks.

Now that I’ve got all that out there, what did I discover?

Well, I discovered that I had forgotten about one very important thing — my favorite all-time card.

Which is, by the way, a 1984 Topps Don Mattingly rookie card.

It’s not very valuable.

It’s not very flashy either, and heck, it’s not even anyone enshrined in Cooperstown, New York.

But, it was, and still is, the card the meant the most to me back in the day.

Why?

Well, I played first base most of my baseball career, including back in 1984, when this card first appeared.

I also played for the Yankees for two seasons when I was a kid, and the convergence of these two forces drew me to Mattingly and to that card.

Now, I’ve had a lot of them over the years, and even at one point had a graded one, a PSA 9, if memory serves me right.

But, like many cards, it moved along to someone else, and I’m hoping they are enjoying it as much as I once did.

But, it has me thinking… I need to start acquiring those ’84 Topps Mattingly rookie, the 1983 Topps Tony Gwynn rookies and more cards that hold a special place in my hobby heart.

What is that card(s) for you?

And, more importantly, is it part of your collection still?
