State of the HObby Survey

I want to do a little something different this week.

Instead of me just rambling on about a topic, or pointing out some observation about a part of the hobby that either frustrates or delights me, I want to venture down a different path today.

I want to know how all of you feel.

Each of you are the components that make up this hobby, and despite what many social media influencer-types may think — there’s more to this hobby than the words, “Bruh,” and “comps.”

That said, let’s dive right into what I like to call — the state of the hobby survey, first edition.

Feel free to answer these right in the comments section below

  1. How would you describe the overall state of the hobby?

  2. What parts of the hobby concern you?

  3. What parts are you pleased with?

  4. Are you satisfied with the direction the hobby is headed in?

  5. Do you feel the hobby, and card manufacturers, do an adequate job getting and keeping kids involved in the hobby?

  6. Do you feel card breaking has a place in the hobby?

  7. What are your thoughts on card grading?

  8. Do you see yourself active/participating in the hobby in five years?

  9. What drew you to the hobby in the first place?

  10. What advice would you give someone just starting out in the hobby?

That’s it.

Ten questions aimed at getting a gauge on the state of the hobby in 2025. This little survey, in no way, is scientific. However, we’re just looking for some thoughts, searching for some commonality between responses.

Check back next week where we can discuss some of the responses.
